A Potted History
Formed by the amalgamation of four churches - Trinity and Ebenezer in 1964, with Barton following in 1968. The new building (on the Trinity site) was opened in 1972. Winton Church joined in 1975. The remaining Sunday School buildings date from 1884, with major refurbishment in 1994. Several Immanuel Church members joined us in 2002 when their building closed.
We have links with overseas Churches. At present, we are actively supporting work in Ghana (a new Church and School complex). One of our members visited Ghana and returned as Queen of the Village!
Part of the Sunday School building has been sold to the Lancastrian Theatre Organ Trust to house their Museum and Heritage Centre. They have installed a Wurlitzer Organ from the Trocadero, Liverpool. Regular weekly concerts are now given. In December 2007 we held our Morning Service in there to celebrate 100 years of that building.
Books used: Hymns and Psalms,
Songs of Fellowship Vols. 1 & 2,
Methodist Worship Book
Our Sunday School joins us for the first part of Morning Service, and leaves after the second hymn to carry on its own activities. They remain in Church for ‘All Age’ services.
You will always be welcome at our Services.
Our agriculture scheme in Burkina Faso, working through Christian Aid, has now come to an end.
It is hoped to have articles about all the ‘founder’ churches soon.
On several occasions we have provided teas for groups which have been visiting attractions
in the area, for example, the Lowry Centre in Salford.
If you would like to come for tea as a group, please e-mail for information.
