Cadishead Wesley Church was full to overflowing on Sunday afternoon the 15th. of July when friends and colleagues gathered to celebrate with John Best his 60 years as a Methodist Local Preacher.

After spending time as a Sunday School teacher, John qualified as a Local Preacher. He has preached to thousands of people in churches from Rixton to Salford during his 60 years of service. Besides finding time for his preaching commitments, John also acts as Church caretaker and booking steward, and is the Church Secretary.

In his spare time he is the secretary of The Probus Club of Irlam and also sings with the Irlam Male Voice Choir, where he also acts as compere.

The service was conducted by Rev. David Hamflett. Rev. Jeff Walker presented John with a certificate from the Methodist Church, and Gill Dascombe, the District Local Preacher’s Secretary also made a presentation.

Bernard Daniels thanked John for all the work he does at Wesley, and on behalf of his friends in the Church, gave John an inscribed plaque and a cheque. He also invited everyone to stay for afternoon tea which had been provided by the ladies of the Church, hoping that there would be enough for everyone, as we had 30% more people attending than expected. As with the 5 loaves and the 2 fishes (and a quick run home for additional supplies) everyone was catered for.
