The Salford Circuit
A Brief History
The New Circuit......  now in its ninth year - 2011/2012
The first Salford Circuit was formed in 2001 when the Salford group of Churches left the Manchester and Salford Mission Circuit and joined with the Swinton Circuit.
The new Salford Circuit was formed from the former Cadishead and Eccles Circuit and the Salford Circuit on Sunday 31st. August 2003 with a Celebration Service held in the historic Eccles Parish Church. There were 7 Churches in each of the former Circuits, and the new Circuit stretched from Rixton (Warrington) in the west to Salford in the east (almost to the Manchester boundary).
Rixton moved into the Warrington Circuit in September 2004, so the west end of the Circuit is now at Glazebrook. Unfortunately, Pendlebury and Wardley Churches closed in March 2008, as did Salem in 2011.
Salford Methodist Community Church merged with St. Ambrose Anglican Church and now meet in their new premises under their new name ‘Emmanuel’ (2011).
There are now five Ministers (three Methodist and two Anglican since the SMCC and St. Ambrose merger) on the Circuit Staff, together with one Deacon and 19 Local Preachers, of which 5 are ‘on trial’. We also have 11 Worship Leaders. A Children’s and Families’ Worker was appointed in September 2011.
