A Potted History
The first Methodist Services in the Swinton area were held in houses at the beginning of the 1800s. With increasing numbers a small Chapel was built in Station Road in 1809. This was replaced in 1850 by a preaching room and Sunday School in two cottages on Shaftsbury Road. Again numbers grew and a new Chapel was built on the present site in 1865, to be followed by the present building, which was opened on May 15th. 1900.
As we meet Sunday by Sunday, we also continue to seek to serve the community, and several organisations use our premises week by week - Priestley Players Amateur Dramatic Society, Rainbows and Brownies, Playgroup, Keep Fit, Slimming World, and Weightwatchers
You will always be welcome at our services.
